Aberdeen based Hydro Group, a global designer and manufacturer of underwater cables and connectors for subsea, underwater, topside and onshore applications, is supplying products for a project underway by the Turkish Navy to build, what is said to be, the largest acoustic range in the world.
Hydro Group is manufacturing a full connectivity system for the Turkish Navy's Acoustic Range, which is primarily for the calibration of systems, sea trials and excercises. The siz figure deal is one of a number of overseas projects the company has worked on recently as it steps up its international focus.
Commenting, Hydro Group Managing Director, Doug Whyte, said: "We have competed for tenders for a number of extremely interesting pieces of work this year taking place in the UK and internationally. Winning the contracts to supply a full conectivity system for what will be the biggest acoustic range built to date is very exciting and we hope it will lead to further work in the future."
In addition, the Group says it has recently welcomed a number of visits by overseas delegations and politicians to its headquarters, as it sets about laying the foundations for expected growth of the company over the next 12 months.

Hydro Group has been actively looking for potential firms in Brazil to form a joint venture agreement with and, in early September, it welcomed a 30-strong delegation from Brazil to its engineering and manufacturing facility at Aberdeen Science and Energy Park, as part of what was said to be the largest business delegation from the country that Aberdeen has ever played host to.
Hydro Group managing director Doug Whyte said: “We were delighted to welcome so many delegates from Brazilian companies to Hydro Group recently. During their visit they were able to get to see first hand the high levels of experience, knowledge and innovative technology the company has to offer.
“Brazil is a high growth and emerging market, but also one that can be challenging to penetrate for SME’s such as ourselves. Therefore an event like this gives us an invaluable opportunity to meet with representatives from a number of companies in Brazil and convey directly to them what it is we do and what our plans are for the continued growth of the business.
“It also helps them form a clearer picture about what it is Hydro Group has to offer the Brazilian market.”
Hydro Group also recently opened its doors to a Scottish Enterprise Aberdeen City & Shire MP/MSP briefing, where a number of MPs and MSPs visited Hydro Group’s Aberdeen headquarters and were given a guided tour of its offices and workshop facilities.
During the visit, the politicians received presentations from Hydro Group, Scottish Enterprise and ACSEF (Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future). Scottish Enterprise and ACSEF work together to help drive economic development in Aberdeen City and Shire and share a vision which includes focusing on the priorities of improving transport, developing, retaining and attracting skilled people, anchoring a global Oil and Gas industry, and attracting more corporate head-quarters to the region.
The briefing was used to discuss updates to ACSEF’s priorities and Scottish Enterprise’s Oil and Gas strategy. Hydro Group was chosen as the ideal location for the briefing, such is the company’s expertise and focus in the manufacturing of innovative smart-technology products for the Oil and Gas sector.
Included in the group of politicians was Dame Anne Begg MP for Aberdeen South and Lewis McDonald MSP for Aberdeen Central, as well as representatives from Scottish Enterprise and ACSEF.
Doug Whyte continued: “It was very encouraging for us to meet the group of politicians and demonstrate to them that Hydro Group is an industry leading company which continues to make progress with plans for further growth.”
